Radiographic Testing, or RT, is a highly effective NDT technique that is widely used in various industries such as oil and gas, refineries, power generation, manufacturing, aerospace, and others to inspect the internal structure of assets.
The RT process involves placing the material to be tested between an X-ray or gamma-ray source and a detector. The radiation penetrates the material and produces an image on the detector, revealing internal features such as cracks, voids, inclusions, and other defects that may compromise the material’s integrity. We use portable x-ray and gamma generators that use various radiation sources, including selenium, iridium, and cobalt, to produce high-quality radiographs.
Our RT inspections are sensitive to corrosion, changes in thickness, voids, cracks, and material density changes, and we can inspect piping, pipelines, castings, forgings, welds, pressure vessels, valves, and other large and small assets. Some benefits of RT inspections include:
- Ability to inspect many types of materials with varying density
- Ability to inspect assembled components
- Minimal surface preparation required
- Determination of crack growth
- Detection of both surface and subsurface defects
- Permanent record of inspection produced for future reference
At kaztron ndt Pvt Ltd, we are proud to have the requisite license from Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) to carry out industrial radiation activities. Our team of Senior BARC Certified Radiation Safety Officers and BARC Certified Radiographers are highly qualified and experienced in conducting RT inspections.
In addition to traditional RT inspections, we also offer advanced radiography methods such as Close Proximity Radiography (24×7 Radiography Concept) and Digital Radiography, which provide even more precise results and save time by avoiding the use of film developing using chemicals.
Radiographic testing is commonly used in a variety of industries. For example, in the oil and gas industry, RT is used to inspect welds in pipelines and storage tanks. In aerospace, RT is used to inspect critical components such as engine parts and landing gear. In manufacturing, RT is used to inspect welds and castings. These are just a few examples of how radiographic testing is utilized in different industries.
